Sheriff Deputies, along with local law enforcement officers from other agencies are working to keep the roadways safe across Cherokee County this weekend.
Holiday weekends often times triple the County’s population and cause an increase in traffic our roadways.
As a result, the Sheriff’s Office is increasing patrols and working traffic over-time during this holiday weekend. According to Sheriff Shaver, the goal is to keep citizens safe while traveling.
Deputies are patrolling to slow vehicles down, discourage reckless driving, and watching for people operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
As of Saturday, deputies had already made 39 drug arrests two of those for being trafficking charges and issued multiple traffic citations.
32 of the 39 arrested remain in the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges ranging from Marijuana Possession, Drug trafficking, Drug Paraphernalia, & Possession of Controlled Substances.
Those arrested were traveling from several different states including Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, Louisiana & Tennessee apparently heading to the Counterpoint Music Festival in Rome, Georgia
