80-Year-Old Bride Weds for The First Time

Aventura Plaza(NEW YORK) —  One 80-year-old bride finally found the love of her life.

Maria Cobar wed 95-year-old widower Carlos Suarez inside their Miami Beach nursing home, the Aventura Plaza Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Nearly 100 guests, including Aventura Plaza staff, friends and family, joined the newlyweds for their nuptials.

The bride wore a champagne-colored sequined dress with matching jacket along with a veil, while the groom wore khaki slacks and a crisp white shirt.

Cobar has one child, her daughter Ana, but this is her first marriage. She immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala when she was 26 and a single mother.

Ana told ABC News that when her mother met Suarez, whose room was across from hers at their nursing home, she called her immediately to gush about him.

“The first day she saw him, she told me that she met this very interesting person,” Ana Cobar recalled. “She said he was very nice and very respectful. She was excited.”

The couple met in February and tied the knot on Nov. 10.

“It was really amazing,” Ana Cobar said of the wedding, which was planned by Aventura Plaza’s events coordinator, Allison Almirola.

The event space was decorated with white, gold and silver balloons and paper wedding bells hung from the ceiling. The bride carried an all-white bouquet, which was officiated by Margarita Rodriguez from Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale.

Afterward, the newlyweds cut a three-tiered cake and held a champagne toast.

“I’m so happy that she’s finally found the one to marry,” Ana Cobar said.

“And I’m happy for her because even though I go visit her often, it’s not the same as someone to share your life with,” she added. “I’m very happy for that, and we’re very blessed that we found Carlos.”
