Accidental Shooting Leaves One Dead

Accidental Shooting 1Investigators have ruled that a shooting death occurring Monday night in northern Floyd County was accidental and no foul play is suspected.

Floyd County Police Officers responded to 403 Buttram Road around 9:00pm to reports of a man possibly being shot.

When officers arrived the man was identified as 70 year old James Collins.

Deputy Coroner Ernie Studdard pronounced Collins dead at the scene, which is family property.

The incident took place in a barn behind the residence.

A neighbor found the Collins and reported it immediately to the family, who called 9-1-1.

Evidence and reports at the scene indicated that the man was shot in the chest by a pistol he was attempting to repair.
