Additional Information Released on Georgia 20 Accident at State Line

GA 20 1

Additional information has now been released regarding a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and an 18-wheeler –which shut down a long stretch of Georgia 20 near the Georgia/Alabama state line for several hours on Friday afternoon.

According to the accident report, the car, being driven by Juan Martinez of Gadsden crossed the centerline and struck the tractor trailer head-on.

The driver of the big rig, Dorothy Calhoun of a Texas address said that the impact broke the steering column causing her to go across both lanes before the vehicle caught fire.

Incredibly, both drivers escaped serious injury – with Martinez being treated and released from Floyd Medical Center Saturday while Calhoun was released from the emergency room late Friday.

Just exactly what caused Martinez to cross the centerline and crash into the tractor trailer remains under investigation.
