Alleged Assault at Calhoun County Jail Under Investigation

Calhoun County deputies continue their investigation into an alleged assault that supposedly took place in the Calhoun County Jail last Friday (September 13th).

According to the Anniston Star, Lt. John Garlick with the Sheriff’s Office, stated that the 35 year old victim got into an argument with his former cellmate, as they were standing in line at the caféteria; it was at that point, another inmate attacked the victim with a heavy plastic spork, given to prisoners at meal time.

Garlick said it has yet to be determined what exactly led to that argument and to the other inmate becoming involved.

The lieutenant said the victim suffered scratches to his right hand, upper left arm and torso but he required no medical attention, however the individual said he intends to press charges against the suspect – who could face a felony charge of second degree assault.
