Ambulance Driver Now Facing a 2nd Degree Vehicular Homicide Charge in Connection with Fatal Rome Wreck

Warrants have now been obtained for the ambulance driver involved in a fatal accident last week in front of Berry College in Rome.

21 year old Chattanooga resident Crystin Keys is facing a charge of Vehicular Homicide 2nd Degree in connection with the death of 55 year old Tony Patterson.

Keys was driving the Puckett EMS Ambulance which left the roadway and crashed into two trees then came to rest on its side around 3:30am on Friday, June 16th.  According to police reports, Keys and a medic in the back of the ambulance were hurt and taken for treatment – and the patient, Patterson who was reportedly being moved from a Lafayette nursing home to Floyd ER for treatment – was fatally injured in the wreck.

The ambulance had been traveling southbound on Martha Berry Boulevard, when it left the roadway and went approximately 300 yards before crashing into the trees, according to the reports.

Sergeant Danny Story with the Rome Police Department said arrangements are being made for Keys to turn herself in.
