An Anniston attorney, already behind bars in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot – now stands charged with an additional attempt to have someone killed.
According to the Anniston Star – Matthew Merrill, age 32 of Golden Springs – had been arrested on May 4th on charges of illegal possession of prescription drugs and public drunkenness; it was during that arrest, authorities say they uncovered evidence of a possible murder-for-hire plot.
He was charged in connection with the murder-for-hire plot on July 25th – after he had allegedly approached a Calhoun County inmate about killing two people; the same day Merrill was moved from the Calhoun County Jail to the Etowah County Jail – where he remains without bond.
