Anniston Man Arrested After Bizarre Incident at Weaver City Hall

Beck, Bobby

A rather bizarre incident at Weaver City Hall Tuesday afternoon fortunately ended with no one being hurt.

59 year old Anniston resident Bobby Beck stands accused of impersonating a peace officer along with a variety of other charges – after he apparently entered city hall with the intention of trying to arrest the mayor.

Police say Beck entered the building with a gun on his belt, and was wearing a badge – when he began demanding to the mayor – saying he had a pair of handcuffs for him, which he held up for city employees to see; before leaving, Beck said he’d be back later. The incident was reported to the Weaver Police Department, and Beck was soon identified through use of surveillance video taken at the scene.

Authorities then picked Beck up at his home on Weatherbrook Lane; in addition to the charge of impersonating a peace officer, he is facing charges of making a terrorist threat and with carrying a pistol without a permit.

A mental health official was notified of the case to monitor Beck’s mental welfare.
