Anniston Man Charged With Murder And Kidnapping Following Saturday Morning Altercation

Thomas Hal Marshall

An Anniston man has been charged with murder and kidnapping following an early morning incident on Saturday.

According to a news release from Capitan Allen George, Anniston Police responded to a report of multiple shots fired on Ragan Drive just before 5:00 Saturday morning.  Responding Officers found a male deceased from gunshot wounds and a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers were able to ascertain that the suspect, 50 year old Thomas Hal Marshall of Anniston came to the residence to get his estranged wife, 48 year old Kimberly Marshall also of Anniston, who was staying at the residence out of fear for her safety.

Thomas Marshall attempted to force his way into the residence and words were exchanged with one of the residents, 46 year old Jeffrey Michael Foote of Anniston.

Thomas Marshall and Foote began to exchange gunfire and Foote was struck multiple times and died at the scene.  Foote’s mother, 63 year old Karen Howell Cooper of Anniston was also shot multiple times and was transported to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center where she is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Marshall then forced his way into the residence and took his estranged wife at gunpoint and drove away from the scene.

Within minutes of the shooting, Marshall was stopped by Oxford PD in the Bynum community for Speeding.  Thomas Marshall was detained until APD Officers could arrive and he was placed under arrest.  Kimberly Marshall was located in the vehicle unharmed.

Marshall is currently in the Anniston City Jail on charges of Capital Murder, Attempted Murder and Kidnapping.  His bond has not been set at this time.

The Investigation continues, but we do not anticipate any further release of information at this time.
