Area Firefighters Respond To Two Structure Fires Within Minutes Of Each Other On Sunday Night

Centre, Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Firefighters responded to a three alarm fire at a two story residence on College Street in Centre just before 7:00 p.m.

Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing from the house from as far as the Cedar Bluff Bridge, firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the structure.

It took more than a dozen firefighters, a number of engines and Centre’s Ladder Truck several hours to finally bring the blaze under control. No one was at home at the time of the fire, the home suffered extensive damage.

Just minutes after Cedar Bluff firefighters arrived on the scene at the Centre fire, their department was dispatched to a second two story structure fire on County Road 714 near Cornwall Furnace at 7:30 p.m.

A second Cedar Bluff unit responded along with assistance from Gaylesville, Broomtown and Spring Creek Departments who were requested due to Centre units being on the first fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to once again find heavy flames coming from the roof of the home.

The exact cause and origin of both fires have not been determined at this time and remain under investigation.

Cherokee Electric crews in addition to DC Gas workers were also called to assist in making sure all utilities were safely cut to both homes.
