Arson was apparently the cause of a fire which damaged an abandoned home in Floyd County on Monday afternoon.
The blaze was reported by a passerby at around 3:30pm.
Authorities say the home at 834 Barker Road Southwest had been abandoned long ago, but could still be used from time to time by vagrants.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Phil Litton says the fire started on the first floor of the two story structure – he added that several suspicious fires have been investigated in that area over the last couple of months.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident and the case remains under investigation.
