Arson Suspected in Thursday House Fire

Arson 1000An abandoned house in north Rome burned to the ground Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the location on Waddell Street just after 1:00pm and were met by a blaze that had already enveloped the roof of the structure – essentially making it unsafe to enter the house. The fire department immediately went into defensive operations, bringing the fire under control before it could spread to the neighboring home, which was only 15 to 20 feet away.

The abandoned home had no utilities running to it, so foul play is suspected.

The incident remains under investigation.
