Attalla Man Faces Several Charges Following Tense Confrontation With Police

RickeyHarrisAn Attalla man faces several charges after what officers described as a tense confrontation.

According to Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Interim Commander Randall Johnson 61 year old Rickey Morrell Harris faces charges of drug possession, reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia, agents were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant at a residence on Gaines Street in Attalla last week.

Johnson said Harris began yelling obscenities at agents from the adjacent yard next door. Harris began to advance toward agents while yelling and cursing. Officers identified themselves as drug agents, but Harris pulled a knife from his pocket, flipped open the blade and raised it up in front of him.

Agents drew their weapons and ordered Harris to drop the knife. After a few moments, Harris dropped the knife and was taken into custody.

Johnson said a used syringe was found in his back pocket. Methamphetamine was also found in Harris’s residence.

Harris is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $4,600.
