Authorities Release Name of Man Struck and Killed by Train in Floyd County

Rome Train 1Authorities have now released the identity of the man who was struck and killed by a train in Floyd County last Friday.

According to Deputy Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, the individual has been identified as 44 year old Mark Anthony Whatley, of a Southern Street address in Rome.

Whatley’s body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for identification after he was hit by the train on the railroad tracks near Callahan Street in North Rome.

It appears Whatley had been traveling east to west, going toward North Broad Street, when he tried to beat the train across the tracks.

The official cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
