The body of 18 year old Zachary Goolesby of Valley Head was recovered from DeSoto Falls, shortly before 3:00pm on Monday; divers with the Fischer Rescue Squad, DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve, pulled the young man’s body from eighteen feet of water approximately two hours after the initial emergency call had been made.
DeSoto State Park employees, along with members of the Mentone Fire Department and off duty personnel from the Ft Payne Fire Department provided assistance.
Goolesby had graduated from Pisgah High School last month.
Witnesses say he simply dived into the water and failed to re-surface.
