Body Recovered from Coosa River on Wednesday Night / UPDATED

UPDATE

Investigators have released the name of the person whose body was pulled from the Coosa River on Wednesday night.

The individual has been identified as 51 year old Jonathan Evan Kirk of Southside.

He reportedly lived near the area where the body was found in an area close to the shore in the 1800 block of Sibert Circle.

Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death.

Kirk was reportedly last seen by his family Tuesday of this week, and they were under the impression that he had left town on a business trip.

ORIGINAL STORY

The body of a man was pulled from the Coosa River in Etowah County on Wednesday night.

According to Coroner Michael Head, the yet-to-be identified individual was found off Sibert Circle in Glencoe shortly before 8:00pm; it’s reportedly believed that the body had been in the water for several days.

A number of law enforcement agencies, including the Marine Patrol and Center for Applied Forensics at JSU, are currently working together to investigate the case.
