L-R: Cassi Davis, Tyler Perry and Patrice Lovely in “Boo! A Madea Halloween”; Eli Joshua/Lionsgate(NEW YORK) — Even the star power of Tom Cruise is no match for Tyler Perry in drag.  Boo! A Madea Halloween, once again starring Perry as the character that made him famous, debuted in first place at the weekend box office, taking in an estimated $27.6 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Tom Cruise’s second take on the former military police officer turned troubleshooter, finished in second, earning an estimated $23 million.  That’s better than the $15.2 million opening the first film enjoyed in December, 2012, when it finished a distant second to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Last week’s top movie, Ben Affleck’s The Accountant, slipped to fourth with just over $14 million, narrowly beaten by the debut of horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil.  Kevin Hart: What Now?, which opened last weekend just shy if $12 million, saw a big drop-off, falling to eighth place with just $4.1 million.

This weekend’s other new release, the much-hyped comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses, opened weak with $5.6 million, placing seventh.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales:

1. Boo! A Madea Halloween, $27.6 million.
2. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, $23 million.
3. Ouija: Origin of Evil, $14.060 million.
4. The Accountant, $14.025 million.
5. The Girl on the Train, $7.270 million.
6. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, $6.0 million.
7. Keeping Up with the Joneses, $5.6 million.
8. Kevin Hart: What Now?, $4.110 million
9. Storks, $4.085 million
10. Deepwater Horizon, $3.625 million.
