UPDATE – County Coroner Confirms ID Of Body Pulled From Weiss Lake

Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith has confirmed that the body of male individual recovered from the waters of Weiss Lake at around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon has been identified as that of 31 year old Cedar Bluff Resident Michael Adam Maddox.

Maddox has been missing from the Riverside Campground Area of Cedar Bluff since February 16th.

Smith told WEIS Radio News that the cause of death is pending and there is an ongoing investigation by the Cedar Bluff Police Department to determine exactly what happen to Maddox

A nearby resident discovered Maddox’s body Sunday afternoon when he went out to his boathouse to check on his boats and noticed what appeared be a floating body in the water.

The recovery was made by members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad with assistance by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Officers with the District Attorney’s Office, State ABC Officers and Cedar Bluff Police Investigators as well as Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith and Deputy Coroner Carl Brown.

Smith stated that additional details in the case would be released as information is available from Cedar Bluff Investigators.
