Highway 9 North Shut Down For Several Hours Following A Two Vehicle Accident Involving An Overturned 18 Wheeler / UPDATED

Additional information has been released regarding an accident that shut down Highway 9 north for more than ten hours over the weekend.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report the wreck took place at 4:35am when an 18 wheeler overturned near Extermco Storage leaving the trailer blocking the roadway; afterwards, a pickup truck slammed into the already overturned rig.

Those involved included – 22 year old Metter Georgia resident Kwasie Williams in the 2008 Freightliner and Jimmy and Steven Reddix, both from Dalton, Georgia, traveling in the 2007 Chevy pickup.  Fortunately, all three received only minor injuries.

A hazmat crew from Birmingham had to be called in to clean up a significant amount of fuel and oil that had spilled into a nearby ditch.

Alabama Department of Transportation Crews were also called to the scene to place detour signs and barricades at Highways 9 and 35 and at Highway 9 and County Road 92.

The Cedar Bluff Police and Fire Departments, the Gaylesville Fire Department, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also responded to the scene.
