Busy Start To The Week For Cherokee County First Responders

It was a busy day for first responders across Cherokee County on Monday. Sand Rock and Leesburg Firefighters in addition to personnel from Cherokee County EMA were called to the scene of a farm equipment and hay fire at a location on County Road 1.

Fire personnel arrived on the scene to find at least two tractors, a hay baler and several bales of hay on fire.

Additional assistance was requested from the Collinsville Fire Department who responded with a large tanker truck.

Firefighters were on the scene for over two hours putting out the fire and extinguishing hotspots.

There was a two vehicle accident on Highway 68 at the intersection with Sand Rock Avenue just after 1:00 p.m., Sand Rock Firefighters and Cherokee County Sheriff’s office deputies in addition to Alabama State Troopers responded to that scene. Fortunately it appears there were only minor injuries.

There was also a report of a structure fire occurring at a residence on County Road 32 in the Mt. Weisner Community. The Mt. Weisner, Centre, Ellisville and Ballplay Bend Fire Departments responded to the scene.

No one was at home at the time of the fire and it appears there were no injuries.

A single vehicle rollover occurred on County Road 113 just after 2:00 p.m. with the McCord’s Fire Department, Floyd EMS units, Alabama State Troopers  and Cherokee County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene.
