Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Continues Thanksgiving Tradition

Calhoun County Turkey Fry 2The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office kept 32 vats hard at work on Wednesday – deep-frying a total of 227 turkeys for the community.

Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said the work started about 7:00am, with cooking continuing throughout the day.

This is the 10th year that the department has prepared turkeys, bringing the grand total to around 2,000 birds served to those in need of a hearty Thanksgiving meal.

Supplies are paid for through the Deputy Sheriff’s Association. During the annual event the department prepares some 25 turkeys for the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, and takes up donations for the Home’s Christmas Fund.
