Candidates Qualify For Municipal Election

Local candidates have officially qualified for office for the upcoming Municipal Election to be held in August.

In Cedar Bluff, Mayor Tammy Crane will retain the office for another four years as she will be running unopposed while Jake Crump and Lorrie Green will face off for the District #1 Seat. Donald Sanders in District #2, Jerry Sprayberry in District #3, Norman Burton in District #4 and Leatha Harp in District #5 are all unopposed as well.

Also on the ballot for Cedar Bluff residents will be a yes/no vote on Sunday Alcohol Sales within the town.

In Leesburg, three candidates are vying for the Office of Mayor; current Mayor Brandy Pierce, Cherokee County Chief of Corrections Jack Harley Lamey and Shannon Mackey who is the son of longtime Mayor Ed Mackey. Several candidates have qualified for Town Council in Leesburg, for Place #1 Frankie Brewster will run unopposed as will Place #2 Councilman Joe Sonaty. For Place #3 Diane Tillery will face Virginia Morris, Place #4 Wayne Byrum will be up against Bron Bradley and for Place #5 Cody Adams will be opposed by Robert “Bob” Morrow.

In the City of Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie will be opposed by newcomer William “Bubba” Johnston. In the race for City Council a total of nine candidates have qualified, those include; Frankie Kelly, Harry Moon, Don Cothran, Glen Chandler, Phillip Roberts, Cedric Williams, Glen Davis, Bess Yarbrough and Kay King Davis.

The Municipal Election will be held on August 23rd.
