Capital Murder Re-trial for Kevin Andre Towles Set for November

towles400The capital murder re-trial of Kevin Andre Towles has been continued to November 16th in the wake of a joint request by made the state and defense attorneys.

Towles 2009 capital murder conviction in connection with the 2006 death of five year old Geontae Glass was remanded to Etowah County Circuit Court for re-trial last year (2014).

Prosecutors say Towles administered a fatal beating to the child, apparently over a conduct issue at school.

Glass 100Geontae’s mother, Shalinda Glass, reported her vehicle stolen with the child inside – and an Amber Alert was issued; Geontae’s body was later found at an Etowah County home owned by Towles.

In his first trial Towles was convicted and jurors recommended the death penalty; however Towles then 15 year old son, testified that he was removed from his father’s home, after an incident of abuse; an appeals court ruled that his testimony should not have been allowed.

Shalinda Glass pled guilty to her son’s murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
