Three Bodies Found Inside A Car Pulled from Black Creek Thursday Morning

Gadsden police and fire pulled a wrecked car from Black Creek today and the bodies of three people were discovered inside.

Police got the call at 7:44 a.m. Workers heading across a newly constructed bridge on Tuscaloosa Avenue in the 1700 block spotted a car upside down in the water, with only its rear wheels visible.

Sgt. John Hallman of Gadsden police said the Etowah County Dive Team, comprised of members of Gadsden police and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, responded to assist.

The car, a red four-door sedan, was upside down in about six to seven feet of water just off the bank. It appeared to have been traveling eastbound when it went into the water.

A Gadsden policeman and dive team member used a ladder to climb out to the car. Once in the water, he spotted a man inside on the driver’s side.

It took crews approximately 30 minutes working with tow trucks and cables to extract the vehicle from the water. It’s roof was visibly damaged. Once the car was on the bridge, officials determined three bodies were inside – an adult male, an adult female and one teenaged male, Sgt. John Hallman said.

Investigators are working to positively identify them, he said. There is no indication yet as to the cause of the incident, nor how long the car had been in the water. It is currently being investigated as a traffic accident, Hallman said.
