The Centre and Cedar Bluff Fire Departments have teamed up with Centre Elementary School to demonstrate and educate students on exactly what firefighters do when they have to enter a home in the event of a fire, the proper equipment and attire that is used and the importance of always making you know what to do and how to get out in the event of a fire.

Cedar Bluff Fire Chief Shawn Rogers along with Centre Fire Chief Robbie Moon and two members of the Cedar Bluff Department demonstrated how firefighters dress, how they properly enter a home and how firemen have to use special breathing apparatus when they enter a structure.

Chief Rogers explained that a firefighter is a community helper who protects people from fire and keeps them safe, children also learned about how Firefighters work for the fire department and can help us in many ways.

Rogers also touched on the fact that some children are scared by the look and sounds of firefighter equipment, explaining how the equipment helps a firefighter stay safe while working is important.

Making sure your children become familiar with the role of the firefighter and the sight and sound of the equipment can lessen a child’s potential fear during a fire.
