Cedar Bluff Community Shows Concern For Cedar Bluff School

It was another standing room only meeting for the Cherokee County Board of Education on Tuesday as several residents, teachers and parents from Cedar Bluff showed to voice their concerns over several vacancies at Cedar Bluff School including the Principal’s position, there were also several questioned asked as to how the hiring/interview process works.

After hearing from several individuals in attendance, including Cedar Bluff Mayor Tammy Crane, Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice made this statement.

In personnel action, the hiring of a Principal at Cedar Bluff School was approved with Dewayne Pierce being unanimously chosen by the board.

In other business, Phyllis Lambert presented the proposed Revised Employee Sick Leave Bank Guidelines as well as the Proposed Sick Leave Policy Revisions.

Board members received the financial reports for the months of March and April and reviewed the accounts payable.

Dale Welsh, David James and Joy Perry were nominated for considerations for the Cherokee County Board of Equalization.

Denise Slayton was approved as Superintendent’s Sick Leave Committee representative (replacing Taylor Talbot who recently left the system)

The board has also acquired more property adjacent to Cedar Bluff School, this time a house and land purchased from Dr. Myron Wilson in the amount of $65,000, the property is directly next door to the property purchased by the board last month on Old Highway 9.

Also approved, were lowest bids for Bread, Ice Cream and Produce services as well as the purchase of a Combi-Oven for Gaylesville School

Other personnel items included the acceptance of the Retirement of Susan Cook, School Psycometrist, after 18 years of service.

  • Bart East, Science Teacher at Cedar Bluff School – pending certification
  • Lester (RJ) Thornberry, History Teacher at Centre Middle School
  • Tiffany Whitten, Math Teacher at Centre Middle School
  • Jennilee Baker, Gifted Teacher at Cherokee County Career & Tech Center
  • Ashlie Snead, Elementary Teacher at Sand Rock

Transfers by Agreement:

  • Stephanie West from Ten Month Assistant Princi[al at Gaylesville School to Nine Month English Teacher at Cherokee County High School
  • Andy Jones from Counselor at Sand Rock School to Assistant Principal
  • Felisha Cleland from Secondary Math at Cedar Bluff School to Secondary Math at Sand Rock
  • Sabrina Jones from Kindergarten Teacher at Sand Rock to Third Grade Teacher at Sand Rock
