Cedar Bluff Man Arrested Following Pursuit On Saturday

A Cedar Bluff man was arrested on Saturday evening following a brief pursuit by Cedar Bluff Officers and Cherokee County Deputies.

According to Investigator Chris O’Neal with the Cedar Bluff Police Department, 27 year old Joseph Wesley Long was arrested after he attempted to elude Officer Chris Vaughn on County Road 44.

Long fled running several stop signs in Cedar Bluff and even ran though the yard of a residence during the pursuit, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies joined the pursuit and after nearly causing several wrecks with innocent motorist, Long was finally stopped at the Intersection of Highway’s 9 & 68 and taken into custody by Officer Vaughn and deputy Jeremy Stepps.

Long had stolen his mother’s car last week and wrecked it several days ago and has been wanted for stealing the vehicle as well as Domestic Violence charges – according to O’Neal he has been hiding out at several different locations in Cherokee County as well as in Georgia.

Long is being charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude, Domestic Violence 3rd Degree, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a number of traffic offenses.

He was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday where he remains without bond.
