Cedar Bluff Man Charged with Arson / UPDATED

CCSO - VaughnA Cedar Bluff man has been arrested and charged with Arson 2nd Degree and with Harassment – following a dispute with a neighbor.

According to information contained in a news release from Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver 54 year old Clarence David Vaughn has been involved in an on-going dispute with his neighbor for an extended period of time.

On Tuesday of this week (July 8th) at approximately 3:30pm – firefighters with the Cedar Bluff, Centre and Gaylesville departments responded to a report of a structure fire off of Highway 68 in Cedar Bluff; they arrived to find the fire in its early stages and were able to extinguish the blaze, with only minimal damage to the residence occurring.

Cedar Bluff Police Officer Mike Howard determined the fire to be suspicious in nature – he then contacted Cherokee County Fire/Arson Investigator Shawn Rogers – who responded to the scene with Deputy State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby.

Following a thorough investigation, Vaughn was charged with setting the fire.

He is currently being housed in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
