Floyd County Police responded to a report of a man being kidnapped from a residence at 74 Preacher Smith Road on Tuesday.

The victim was forced into a vehicle at the residence after an altercation with another male; he was then taken to Chattooga County – where the vehicle and the occupants were located by Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Deputies; the 58 year old victim was transported from the scene to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.

The man who assaulted him and forced him into the vehicle was identified as a 48 year old Cedar Bluff resident – Stacey Gardner. A woman in the vehicle was questioned but was not charged in the incident.

Agencies from both Floyd County and Rome, the Georgia State Patrol and Chattooga County along with Cherokee County Alabama were actively searching for the victim within minutes of the call to 9-1-1.

Gardener stands charged with Kidnapping, Terroristic Threats & Acts, Aggravated Assault and Battery.

The investigation into the matter is on-going.
