Cedar Bluff Town Councilman Dewayne Agan Resigns Following Some Intense Discussion On Monday

CEDAR BLUFF| There were some tense moments during Monday’s meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council, which ultimately lead to Councilman Dewayne Agan tendering his resign right in the middle of the meeting.

Things got heated when a concerned citizen of the town addressed the council seeking answers about some concerns she had in regards to revenue from the AT&T Towers in the park in addition to questions about the recent purchase of the playground equipment as well as other concerns.

It was at that point things really got heated and that’s when Councilman DeWayne Agan presented Mayor Tammy Crane with his letter of resignation, we talked to Agan following the meeting and he told us that his resigning had nothing to do with the mayor or the current council and administration, he said he just felt like it was time for him to step away.

In other business, the council agreed to unanimously accept an offer from the Cedar Bluff Utility Board to settle a longstanding lawsuit between the Town and the Utility Board over the water tower in the town park, the Utility Board has agreed to give the town a quick claim deed to the tower.

The council at the recommendation of Fire Chief Shawn Rogers, also approved a long list of items from the department to be sold as surplus property, also at the recommendation of Chief Rogers the town agreed to pay its portion for the new fire department radio system through the Cherokee County Fire Association, this is a connection fee in the amount of $2,181 and was budgeted in the fire departments budget earlier in the year, Chief Rogers said that the new radio system in set to go online April 1st.

Rogers went on to say that this is a million dollar radio system which the fire association received a grant for and that it will give the fire departments an all new state of the art radio system which will allow for better communication as well as inoperability with police, EMS, EMA rescue, etc.

Longtime Weiss Lake advocate Jerry Culberson also addressed the council concerning the need for year round access for Weiss Lake including upgraded amenities such as restroom facilities, better boat launches, etc. the council took under advisement every concern Mr. Culberson addressed and Mayor Crane vowed to continue to work to help make Cedar Bluff and Weiss Lake the greatest place to live.
