Centre City Council

Following some lengthy discussion by the Centre City Council on Tuesday – the council voted by a margin of 5-2 to not allow Centre Parks and Recreation Director Charles Glazner to drive his city owned vehicle to and from Piedmont where he lives.

Just over a year ago, the council voted to no longer allow Glazner to drive his city owned truck to and from Piedmont where lives.

Glazner says that when he was originally hired part of the agreement included the city providing him transportation–

Councilman Glen Chandler made a formal motion to reinstate full use of the vehicle back to Glazner – only Chandler and Mayor Pro Tem Bess Yarborough voted in favor of the measure everyone else voted against it.

In other business, the city has agreed to purchase three new Sanitation Department Dumpsters at a cost of $6,841.14

Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie also stated that there were some repairs that needed to be done at the city pool before the facility can be opened for the summer. Mayor Wilkie said he would like the council to consider the hiring of Mark Welsh who is currently the City’s Building Inspector, as the City’s Engineer – Welsh is a Certified Engineer.

Wilkie informed the council that City Fire Chief Kevin Ware has been without his truck for almost two weeks now due to a severe engine problem – the mayor is proposing that the city look at the possibility of surplusing the vehicle and purchasing him a new one, the issue will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Wilkie also announced that the 2nd Annual Run 4 Val Event has been set for April 18th.
