Centre City Council Meeting|City Approves Amendments To Alcohol Ordinance

Centre City CouncilThe Centre City Council has approved a request by the City’s Alcohol Review Board amending the current ordinance – during the council’s previous meeting Tommy Loder, Chairman of the Alcohol Review Board, made a recommendation requesting two amendments be made.

The first – any licensed premise shall construct and maintain a wall and fence no less than three feet or 36 inches in height measured from the floor deck or ground in which alcoholic beverages will be served from the entrance to the outside area from the interior of the licensed premises only – the original ordinance called for a six foot wall which many felt was too high.

The second amendment – would set the off premise consumption hours to begin Monday at 1:00 am and end at mid-night on Saturday.

Also during the meeting Mayor Tony Wilkie gave council members an update from meetings he attended Tuesday morning in the State Capital regarding the recent decision by the State Supreme Court striking down a 2009 law which allowed the City of Centre to hold and Alcohol Referendum –

In other business, the council approved the purchase of a new telephone system for the new police department building in the amount of $3,114.96 from Surveillance Concepts out of Cedar Bluff, that cost will cover 11 phones along with all the necessary accessories and hardware.
