Centre Elementary School Principal Brian Johnson Announces His Retirement

Several things were covered during Tuesday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education – including what is being done to replace the boiler heating unit at Centre Elementary School.

pic 7Superintendent Mitchell Guice said that there have been several  Certified Engineers that have looked at the Boiler but it could be as late as January before a boiler could be installed.

As a temporary fix, the board is looking at taking out the current AC Window Units and replacing them with Dual Units which would provide not only heat but new air-condition units as well – Guice said that he wants to have them installed as soon as next week.

There will 14 total units purchased with the funds coming from the operating reserve fund.

The Board also accepted the retirement of Centre Elementary School Principal Brian Johnson after over 23 years of service along with Anne Miller Instructional Coach at Cedar Bluff School with 38 years of service and Raymond Wayne Robertson, Bus Driver at Sand Rock with 21 years of service.

Resignations included Amanda Williams, Federal Programs Secretary Effective December 1st.

Certified Placements were – Melissa Itson –Lunchroom Worker at Centre Middle School and Rhonda Smith – Federal Programs Secretary both effective December 1st.

Certified Transfers by agreement were Joy Duff – 7 hour Lunchroom Worker at Cherokee County High School to 7 ½ Hour Lunchroom Worker at Gaylesville and Lona Beukens – 7 Hour Lunchroom Worker at Cedar Bluff School to 7 Hour Lunchroom Worker at Cherokee County High School.
Cherokee County Quarterback Club Supplements included – Coach Tripp Curry, Head Football Coach at Cherokee County High School – $13,400 less benefits to be funded by the Quarterback Club.

A Leave of Absence was approved for Jennifer Brooke Eubanks, Teacher at Cherokee County High School for Maternity Leave.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education is scheduled for December 2 at 6:00pm at the Central Board Office in Centre.
