Gadsden State Community College has awarded the prestigious Clemis L. Bailey Nursing Scholarship to Brittany Hindman of Centre.

Hindman, a student at Gadsden State Cherokee, said she is excited to begin her career in nursing. She maintains a part-time job as well as a 3.5 grade point average.

“Brittany is a very dedicated student,” said Luanne Hayes, campus director of Gadsden State Cherokee. “She has a positive attitude and assists anyone who asks.”

The endowment is a memorial for the late Clemis Bailey. It is given to a student residing in Cherokee County. Bailey was a beloved volunteer at Cherokee County Medical Center, where she served as a “Pink Lady,” until her health began to decline. When her sickness left her unable to walk, her husband took her on several occasions to the hospital to visit the staff and patients.

“Mrs. Bailey’s volunteering activities were recognized with awards and pins for attaining more than 10,000 hours of service,” Hayes said.
