Centre Rotary Club Scholarships Announced

The Centre Rotary Club recently awarded $500 scholarships to four local high school students at their weekly meeting.  This year’s recipients are Maggie Bowen, Zachary Clifton and Haley Colbert, all seniors attending Cedar Bluff High School and Darbie Rosser, a senior attending Cherokee County High School.  The selection committee requirements included letters of recommendation, Grade Point Average and a properly researched essay on the “Meaning of the Four Way Test, Rotary’s code of conduct.

 

Rotary Past President Luanne Hayes introduced the students and their parents to club members as President Johnny Roberts made the award presentations.

 

Maggie Bowen is the daughter of Idral and Melinda Bowen. She is an Honor student and member of Beta Club, SGA, FFA and FCCLA and Captain of the cheerleading squad.  She is active with her youth group at Centre First United Methodist Church.  After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Alabama.

 

Zachary Clifton is the son of Andreanna and Scott Clifton.  He is an Honor student and served as the editor of his high school yearbook, member of Beta Club and FCCLA.  He is active with his church, Sand Rock United Methodist.  Zac plans to attend the University of Montevallo.

 

Haley Colbert is the daughter of Deanne and Jeff Burt. She is an Honor Student and member of Beta Club, FFA, SGA, FCCLA .  She was voted by her peers the 2012 Homecoming Queen and is a graduate of Youth Leadership Cherokee. She is active with her church, Enon Grove Baptist Church.  She plans to attend Jacksonville State University.

 

Darbie Rosser is the daughter of Greg and Sheri Rosser. She is an Honor student and will graduate with a grade point average of 4.0.  She is active in many clubs and organizations at Cherokee County High School.  She participated in Varsity basketball and softball.  She attends Pine Grove Baptist Church and volunteers with Mission Meals and Vacation Bible School.  Darbie plans to attend Auburn University this fall.
