Centre Woman Arrested for Stealing Flowers in Lyerly

Flowerthief914A Centre, Alabama woman was arrested on Tuesday after she admitted to being the one who stole flowers from planters along the street in Lyerly.

Earlier in the week the Town of Lyerly took to social media to spread the word and post pictures of the woman that they believed was stealing mums from the city planters.  The flowers were donated by the Lyerly Civic Club.  Some Lyerly residents even put up a $250 reward for information on the flower thief.

Surveillance cameras at TJ’s Liquor Store caught the woman stealing the flowers.  On Tuesday, seventy-four year old Nita W. Franklin of Centre admitted to Chattooga County Sheriff’s Investigators that she had stolen the flowers.  The flowers had been turning up missing for several weeks, but Franklin only admitted to taking the flowers on one occasion.

She was released on bond after being charged with one count of theft by taking.
