Cherokee County Woman Charged with DUI Following Highway 411 Accident

HooperCherokee County emergency crews responded to a rather “unusual” accident scene, shortly after 6:30 Monday evening.

Eyewitness reports indicated that a female driver had apparently jumped from her vehicle, on Highway 411 North in the Key community – with the 1994 Chevy then traveling into the parking lot of the Dollar General Store, striking several other vehicles before finally coming to a stop.

Emergency personnel at the scene soon located the driver, who had apparently walked to a nearby residence. She told them she didn’t need an ambulance and fortunately no one else was hurt in the mishap either.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report the driver was listed as 30 year old April Hooper of Centre.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office website, Hooper was booked into jail just after 8:30pm and charged with DUI.

The accident report didn’t contain any information regarding any possible damage to other vehicles which may have been hit by the woman’s car during the incident.

Those responding to the scene included the Spring Creek Fire Department, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Troopers.
