Charlotte Police to Release Video of Keith Lamont Scott Shooting

iStock/Thinkstock(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina, Police Chief Kerr Putney says police are releasing the department’s tapes of the fatal shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, which has sparked days of protests across the city.

Putney announced at a news conference Saturday that the substantive body camera and dash camera footage of the shooting will be released, and other footage will come later.

The chief says the tapes show that Scott was in possession of a handgun and will offer “indisputable evidence” of the department’s account, and he said that at this point, he believes no officer will be charged in the shooting.

He added that he believes the footage can now be released without jeopardizing the investigation.
