Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters Kicked Out Of Chattooga County Democratic Party

Jason Winters 5The executive committee of the Chattooga County Democratic Party has voted to stop county commissioner Jason Winters from qualifying to run in their organization.

Winters, serving his second term as commissioner, angered Democrats by campaigning for two Republicans, state senator Jeff Mullis and Gov. Nathan Deal.

In a letter to Winters from Tim Shiftlet who is the spokesperson for the Chattooga County Democratic Party – Winters was informed that he will no longer be allowed to qualify for public office in Chattooga County as a Democratic Candidate

The letter then goes on to say that that Party By-Laws, state that Special action may be taken by the Chair, provided he/she has a majority vote of the Executive Board.

That vote was taken, and the actions described in this notice were unanimously approved.
Shiflet went onto say that the party felt that Democratic elected officials could not remain in good standing if they support a Republican candidate in two races, as Winters supposedly did this year.

A vote is expected to be taken during the next regularly scheduled Party Meeting, on the expulsion of Winters from the Party – at which time he will have an opportunity ti appeal the decision.
