Chattooga County authorities are investigating the death of a Silver Hill man – whose body was found inside his home over the weekend.

The body of William “Bob” Packer was discovered inside his residence on John Johns Road and Sheriff Mark Schrader has stated that the death has been ruled a homicide.

A “person of interest” was reportedly detained for questioning Saturday night – and was released early Sunday morning. Schrader told media outlets that another search warrant would be served in connection with the case, however gave no additional details.

As of yet, no one has officially been arrested in connection with the death.

Packer was accused of murder in the death of his long-time friend James Kirby back in 2010 – he was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the shooting – and he was later indicted by a Chattooga County Grand Jury on a charge of Malice Murder. Packer went on trial in October 2012 and was subsequently found “not guilty” on the Malice Murder charge with the other counts against him in relation to the death of Kirby being declared a mistrial.
