Cherokee County Board Of Education Meeting| School Board Member Dr. Mark Green Resigns

School Board Member and longtime Cherokee County Educator Dr. Mark Green has resigned his seat on the Cherokee County Board of Education effective immediately. Dr. Green said that this decision comes after he and his wife Laura made the decision to move out of the Cherokee County School District –

Dr. Green was very reluctant in making this decision and says that it has been a great pleasure to have served the school for the last 3 years as a board member and 36 ½ years as a educator.

In other business, the board received an update from the Cenergistic Energy Company –

The Board Members and each of the Principals from all Cherokee County Schools were presented with an award from Cenergistic for Energy Stewardship for Outstanding Environmental Stewardship.

In other business the board received for review the February 2016 and March 2016 Bank Reconciliation, Cash Balance and Financial Statement and approved the 2016-2017 Salary Schedule.

Bids were accepted for Membrane Roofing projects at Cherokee County and Sand Rock High Schools from GKL Companies in the amount of $350,000 and for Metal retrofit Roofing projects at Spring Garden and Cedar Bluff High Schools from Johns & Kirksey in the amount of $343,000.

A contract was approved with Extermco Pest Control for cafeteria pest control services in addition to an agreement with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for School Resource Officers with Ricoh for a copier for Special Education Department at Centre Elementary School and with McKee and Associates for bleacher replacement projects at Sand Rock and Cedar Bluff Schools.

The board also gave the ok for the Cherokee County Career and Tech Center to declar a number of items for surplus and sale in addition to the declaration of the renovation of the Pre-K Playground as a public works project.
