During this week’s Board of Education meeting, a substitute employee management program was approved. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Trina Wood says the automated system can monitor absences in a more efficient manner. Also, substitutes can find openings (as far as what substitutions are available).

Dr. Wood says with the Affordable Care Act coming into play in January it was important to find a tool that better monitors the hours that substitutes put in because anything over 30-hours presents the possibility is there for substitutes being considered full-time and thus eligible for benefits.

The cost to implement the program is $4,500 for the set up with a $7,500 annual fee to maintain the system.

Gaylesville School is getting a new roof. The Board awarded the contract was to Johns and Kirksey, the apparent low bidder on the project. Superintendent Guice said the target date for completion of the project is early October. The cost for the school, gymnasium, and vocational building is $245,900.

In personnel action this week the Board approved the resignation of school bus drive, Jacqueline Nicholson.

In certified placements Felisha Cleland was approved for math teacher at Cedar Bluff, Kayla Ray approved for first grade teacher at Centre Elementary, Dax McDonald approved for science teacher at Cherokee County High, Adam Careaga approved for JAG Specialist at the Career and Tech Center.

Job Postings include a position for school bus driver on a Centre route, Pre-K teacher at Spring Garden, and Pre-K Paraprofessinal position at Spring Garden.

Two coaching supplements were approved: $500 plus benefits for Travis Barnes at CCHS Softball, and Casey West, a $250 Supplement plus benefits at CCHS Softball. Both are to be paid by the CCHS Softball Boosters organization.

The Board then voted to go into executive session to meet with a community group from Gaylesville to discuss job performance and good name and character. Superintendent Guice and Chair Person McKissick said the Board would not take any further action after the executive session which lasted more than the expected 20 minutes as stated.

The next meeting of the Board of Education is set for July 9th at 6pm in the Central Board Office in Centre.
