Cherokee County Chief DA Investigator Selected As Republican Rising Star Of The Week By The Alabama Republican Party

Investigator Josh Summerford with the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office was recently selected as Rising Republican Star of the week by the Alabama Republican Party.

Summerford – a Leesburg resident was recently promoted to Chief Investigator for the District Attorney’s Office in Cherokee and DeKalb Counties. He has been with the District Attorney’s Office since 2008 and looks forward to the new challenges being Chief Investigator will bring.

A graduate of Northeast Alabama Community College, Josh attended the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Academy in 2003. Following his graduation from the Sheriff’s Academy, Josh served 6 years as Deputy Sheriff of DeKalb County and one year as Deputy Sheriff of Cherokee County.

Professionally, Josh has been a member of the Cherokee County School Safety Committee, Cherokee and DeKalb County Child Abuse Review Team, Secretary for the Alabama District Attorney Investigators’ Board, and a member of the Cherokee County E-911 Board. Governor Bentley appointed Josh to serve on the State of Alabama Voter Registration Advisory Board and the State of Alabama Council on Interstate Compact for Adult Offenders in 2011.

Josh was awarded the District Attorney’s ‘Top Gun Award’ in 2012 for his work on a capital murder case. He was also this year’s recipient of the Optimist Club Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award, in recognition of the work he performed during the April 27, 2011 tornadoes and for solving multiple major sex abuse cases.

As a charter member of the Cherokee County Young Republicans, Josh currently serves as Vice Chairman. Josh is also a new member of the Cherokee County GOP Executive Committee. Josh has been volunteering for Congressman Robert Aderholt’s campaign and other local GOP candidates since his high school years.

Josh is married to Summer McWhorter, a Cherokee County native and attorney in Centre. Together they have one daughter, Mabry, who is six. The family is a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Centre and serves on the Administrative Board.

His dedication to protecting the people of Cherokee and DeKalb Counties prove him to be a true Rising Star.
