The Cherokee County Commission met in regular session with a light agenda. The commission approved two jobs for posting which included a position for a part-time license inspector and a housekeeper position at the County Administration building. In other business, two requests for special funds were approved.
The first was for the So Cool Summer Youth Program in the amount of 4-thousand dollars, 1-thousand from each commissioner’s Tobacco Tax Discretionary Fund.
The second was to the City of Center for the Cherokee Nationals 8 and Under Baseball Team. The 12-hundred dollars will help with travel expenses for the state tournament coming up in Tuscaloosa. 300 dollars will come from each of the four commissioner’s Tobacco Tax funds.
In other business, the Commission approved an excess land redemption to Ellis or Ann Butler in the amount of $86.78 and a memorandum of understanding with East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for wheelchair lift services with authorization for the Chairman to sign. County Engineer, Corey Chambers, told the Commission paving of the last 5 and a half miles of county road 19 is underway. The paving is being paid for with an 80/20 matching grant from the State under the A-Trip program.
The next regular meeting of the County Commission is set for Monday, July 8th at 10AM.
