Cherokee County Commission Meeting Part 2

It was not only a packed house but also a packed agenda for this week’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission.

Commissioners voted to lower the speed limit on two county roads with Commissioner Marcie Foster asking for the speed limit to be reduced from 45mph to 25mph on County Road 239 due to several complaints of excessive speeds by motorist from residents that live along the road.

Commissioner Kimball Parker asked that the speed limit on County Road 531 be reduced from 45 mph to 30 mph.

In other business, the commission also approved a resolution for an application for matching funds through the ADECA Law Enforcement Application.

Excess land redemptions were approved for Michelle and Brent Tucker in the amount $238.56 and $230.96, Reba Ray in the amount of $245.01, T. Mallory or Margaret Whorton in the amount of $141.27, and Brian Mackey in the amount of $1580.46 and $195.29

Tommy Hester was approved as a new hire at the Cherokee County Highway Department as a Highway Maintenance Tech I at a pay rate of $9.95 per hour.

Commission Kirk Day announced a Public Hearing would be held at the next Commission Meeting on July 13th with comments to be filed with the commission through July 8th.

The commission an extra hour early at 8:00 a.m. on the 13th in order to have an extra hour work session to devote to the upcoming budget process.
