Road projects, board appointments and resolutions regarding amendments appearing on the November (2016) General Election Ballot made up the majority of the Monday morning meeting of the Cherokee County Commission.
Commission members adopted the resolutions for plantmix resurfacing, traffic striping and guardrail improvements on County Road 33 from County Road 308 – north a distance of 2.2 miles and for the same work on County Road 20 from County Road 7 – east, a distance of 2.4 miles to the intersection of County Road 150.
Following that meeting, we spoke with County Engineer Corey Chambers, who informed us that these projects would likely begin late spring or early summer.
Commission Chairman Kirk Day announced that Mr. John Usry has tendered his resignation from the Cherokee County Library Board, adding that an appointment to fill that unexpired term, which ends in January of 2020, will take place during the Wednesday, November 16th Commission meeting. It was also announced that appointments/re-appointments for three expiring six-year terms of the Cherokee County Healthcare Authority, would be made at the same meeting.
Resumes for all those positions will be accepted through Wednesday, November 9th.
Commission members also adopted resolutions in support of three proposed Constitutional Amendments, those being 3, 4 and 14, which will appear on the November General Election Ballot.
We hope to have detailed information on those proposed amendments from Chairman Kirk Day in the near future.
In other business it was agreed to allow Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver to list a washer and dryer as surplus equipment from the jail; it was approved for the Highway Department to to advertise, and request bids for, two (2) ten-foot pull-behind rotary cutters.
It was also approved to advertise a job posting for Motor Vehicle Clerk, following the recent resignation of an employee. Applications will be accepted starting October 24th.
The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be held Monday October 24th starting at 5:00pm – taking place in the County Administration Building in Centre.
