Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission was a standing room only affair.
Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver addressed the commission during the planning session
At that time, the sheriff presented the commission with a check in the amount of $65,000 to cover the request for his employee’s pay raise for the next several months; that money was derived from the sale of surplus equipment requisitioned through the federal government.
Commissioner Marcie Foster asked that the measure for the sheriff’s office be placed on the agenda for action. Commissioner Kimball Parker, on the other hand, asked for the measure to be addressed during their upcoming budget meetings which will actually be taking place over the next three months
During the regular meeting, Commissioner Foster made a motion to give that pay raise, and adopt the adjusted pay scale for the next three months, using the funds provided by Sheriff Shaver.
The measure died for lack of a second.

Foster was asked if continuing to fund the raise in pay would be difficult:
Foster suggested cutting non-essential expenses, such as donations to organizations which could be funded through sources other than the county commission
