A Mentone woman has been arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana. Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver has informed WEIS Radio News that agents with the Alabama State Troopers Aviation Unit – while using their helicopter early Tuesday afternoon – observed a woman cutting marijuana plants behind a residence in the Cloudland community.
They alerted agents with the Cherokee County Drug Unit , who in turn, notified deputies with the Chattooga County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office; those deputies responded to the scene and remained until Cherokee County law enforcement could arrive.
Officers found the woman and the marijuana plants, and at that time placed 45 year old Margaret Wadsworth Nichols under arrest on charges of Trafficking Marijuana, the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Personnel from the Department of Human Resources also responded to the scene, due to a minor child being present.
Nichols currently remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
