A Glencoe man has been arrested in Oklahoma after being indicted by a Cherokee County Grand Jury on charges of Sexual Abuse of a Child under the age of 12.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 32 year old Nathaniel Paul Maier was arrested on Wednesday after U.S Marshals apprehended him in Carter County, Oklahoma.

The United States Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force was contacted for assistance after it became apparent that Maier was on-the-run from law enforcement.

After about a week, the U.S. Marshals Service was able to locate and apprehend Maier in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The suspect is also wanted for similar charges in Calhoun County.

Maier was transported to the detention facility in Carter County, Oklahoma, where he awaits extradition back to Alabama.

Sheriff Shaver told WEIS Radio News that he will be first transported to Calhoun County to face charges there and will then be brought back to Cherokee County to face charges here.

Sheriff Shaver commended Chief Investigator Josh Summerford, Calhoun County Investigator Rachel Israel, and the Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force for their efforts in Maier’s apprehension.
