At around 7:20 Monday morning, Cherokee County authorities responded to the location of what was initially being referred to as an “active crime scene”, near the Etowah County line, in the extreme western portion of the county.

WEIS Radio News quickly confirmed that a body was found at a residence on County Road 1, off of 36, with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, Cherokee EMS and Mark Hopwood with JSU Center for Applied Sciences all being dispatched to that location, launching an investigation into the matter.

Just prior to 12:00 noon, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver informed WEIS Radio that the initial findings from the investigation, have led authorities to believe that the deceased may have died by their own hand and not through any foul play.
